Motorcyclists urged to concentrate on the road ahead
Police Scotland is urging motorists to concentrate on the road ahead this summer, as roads become busier and more motorcyclists take advantage of the warmer weather.
Motorcyclists are among the most vulnerable road users, and while they make up just one per cent of the traffic on our roads, they account for around 13 per cent of fatalities.
Road policing officers will be carrying out proactive patrols across Scotland this summer to encourage safe driving and are urging motorists to continually check for motorbikes when moving off or emerging from junctions.
Additionally, officers are stressing the importance of motorcyclists being alert to traffic following a number of collisions where riders have failed to react to what is happening ahead of them.
Chief Inspector Darren Faulds, from Road Policing Division said: “The summer months are typically busier on our roads and so it is essential that all drivers are mindful of other road users and that conditions can change quickly.
“We ask motorcyclists to ride responsibly and to ensure their behaviour behind the wheel does not put them, or anyone else, at risk.
“Scotland is blessed with beautiful scenery and we all have a part to play to ensure everyone can enjoy it safely.”
