Woman identified following fatal road crash on A71, West Lothian
On Thursday, 16 December, 2021, a woman died after being struck by a car on the A71 just west of the village of Wilkieston. The incident occurred around 7.05am.
The deceased can be named as 65-year-old Gillian Mitchell from Kirknewton.
The collision also involved a blue Ford Fiesta car, which was travelling west at the time. The 20-year-old male driver of the car was uninjured.
Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident. In particular, officers are keen to speak to a motorcyclist who was travelling eastbound on the A71 immediately towards Wilkieston who may have witnessed the incident. The motorcyclist is sought as a witness to the collision.
Sergeant Peter Houston said: “I am appealing for anyone who may have been on the A71 around the time of the incident to contact us. I would ask motorists with dash cam devices to check their footage as it could provide us with significant details which would assist our investigation. I would like to ask the motorcyclist to get in touch with us, although I do wish to stress the rider is not believed to have been involved in the incident but may have information which could be vital in our enquiries.”
