Craig Smart jailed for sexual offences in Perth
Police Scotland has acknowledged the conviction of Craig Smart who was sentenced today (Thursday, 29 April) at the High Court in Edinburgh to four years and two months imprisonment.
He was previously found guilty following a trial at Edinburgh High Court of sexual offences. These offences were committed against two females in 2017 in the Perth area.
Detective Inspector Caine McIntyre of the Domestic Abuse Task Force said: “Craig Smart perpetrated serious sexual offences and had previously gone unpunished for these horrific crimes.
"Smart has shown himself to be a violent and dangerous individual, targeting both females whom he had known for only a short period of time.
"With this sentence, Craig Smart will face the consequence of his actions for years to come and will be continually monitored by police.
"His conviction is welcomed and sends out a clear message that these crimes will not be tolerated and will be robustly investigated by Police Scotland.
"I would like to thank the victims for the courage and strength they have shown during the investigation and subsequent court case. I hope todays sentencing can provide them with a level of closure.
"We would take this opportunity to reach out to anyone who is experiencing or has experienced domestic abuse or been victim to a sexual crime; it is never too late to report to the Police or to seek support and advice from one of our partner agencies such as Women's Aid."
