Chief Constable welcomes new Constables in physically distanced Oath of Office
Chief Constable Iain Livingstone QPM addressed 125 new probationary Constables during a physically distanced Oath of Office ceremony at Police Scotland’s headquarters in Tulliallan.
The Chief Constable welcomed the intake in the first open air Oath of Office on the parade square at the Scottish Police College on Wednesday, 9 September.
In the past, the Chief Constable ensured he shook each probationer by the hand and presented them with their warrant card during a ceremony in the college’s lecture theatre.
The new format ensures this important milestone in the career of a police officer continues to be recognised and Mr Livingstone is able to speak with the new Constables as we find new ways of working during the coronavirus pandemic.
Mr Livingstone underlined the importance of the office of Constable in Scotland and explained why the ceremony is a significant moment.
Justice of the Peace Graeme Hannah led the group through their oaths while Head of Training Delivery, Supt Rob Hay congratulated them on the beginning of their policing career.
The diverse group included 81 males and 44 females aged between 18 and 44, and from a range of ethnicities.
The intake includes former Special Constables and members of police staff, and also a former University Lecturer, Greenkeeper, Airline Pilot, Software Engineer.
