Man arrested - Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow City Centre
Police have arrested a man following an intelligence-led operation in Glasgow.
Around 6.30pm on Friday, 21 August, 2020, armed officers stopped and searched a black Mazda 6 car on Sauchiehall Street and recovered a firearm and ammunition.
A 55-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the find. He is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday, 24 August, 2020. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
As part of the same investigation, around 7.10 pm on Friday, 21 August, 2020, a red Volkswagen Golf was stopped by armed officers in Neilston Road, Paisley. No items were recovered and no arrests made.
Detective Inspector Martin McGhee of Police Scotland's Specialist Crime Division said:
"As part of an ongoing investigation, officers from Police Scotland have recovered a firearm and ammunition.
"I would urge anyone who may have information about the criminal use of firearms to contact Police Scotland on 101 or, alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
