Frequently Asked Questions
What is Police Scotland’s role?
The safety and security of those taking part and attending the Championships is the responsibility of the organisers, who have asked for police support.
We are one of many supporting partners who will help the organiser deliver a safe and secure event. Other partners include Transport Scotland, Visit Scotland, Glasgow City Council and other local authorities. We are part of multi-agency planning groups that bring together a range of responsibilities and experience.
Police Scotland has significant experience at major events including the Commonwealth Games, UEFA Euro 2020, The Open golf championship and COP26.
Where are the Championships being held?
The main location is Glasgow which will host eight of the 13 UCI World Championships and provide five venues. Other host regions are Dumfries and Galloway, Fort William, Angus, Dundee, Edinburgh, Perth and Kinross, Loch Lomond, Scottish Borders and Stirling.
Will there be road closures?
Planning has been ongoing for several months and we are working with the organiser, Transport Scotland and local authorities to minimise disruption.
Advice is to plan ahead.

Can I use a drone to film at outdoor events?
All drone users must comply with Civil Aviation Authority guidelines.
Police Scotland will not be applying for any temporary airspace restrictions during the Championships. However, it is always the drone users responsibility to check if any restrictions are in place (for example from other organisations). More information can be found here: www.caa.co.uk/drones.
We will take enforcement action if airspace restriction requirements have not been met. Enforcement can be a warning, confiscation of a drone or imprisonment.
