We are committed to supporting victims of rape and sexual crime regardless of when the incident happened.
Rape and sexual crime has a long term devastating affect and we are committed to supporting those who have suffered.
We recognise how difficult it can be to report rape and sexual crime and we have specially trained officers who are here to help and support you.
Police Scotland’s Get Consent campaign makes it clear that sex without consent is rape – whatever the circumstances.
Support and guidance is available through the following organisations:
- Rape Crisis Scotland Call 08088 01 03 02
- Scottish Women’s Aid Call 0800 027 1234
- White Ribbon Call 0808 2000 247

Have you been the victim of rape or a sexual crime?
- Our Rape Investigation Units within every division across Scotland are supported by the National Rape Task Force based at the Scottish Crime Campus in Gartcosh.
- Reporting rape and sexual crime early can increase our opportunity to gather evidence, however we will investigate every report with the same level of thoroughness regardless of when it happened.
- No one should feel guilty or embarrassed about reporting rape or sexual crime; we will deal with your report sensitively and thoroughly with consideration to your wishes and needs.
- We will ensure you receive all the necessary support available and have specially trained officers to help you.
Police Scotland will also ensure you are provided with the opportunity to obtain support through our partners who include Rape Crisis Scotland, Women’s Aid, White Ribbon Scotland and ASSIST.
If you have been raped or sexually assaulted:
- You are not alone.
- There are many support services which can help you. They know how difficult it is for people to come forward.
- If you have not yet contacted the police following a rape or sexual crime, then please consider doing so. Our specially trained officers are available to help and support you. We will listen and we will investigate. You will be treated sensitively and with respect.
Call Police Scotland on 101 or contact the Rape Crisis Scotland National Helpline on 08088 01 03 02 (daily 6pm-12 midnight). In an emergency always call 999.
