Scottish Institute of Policing Research
Police Scotland research opportunities
Police Scotland have entered into a partnership with the Scottish Institute of Policing Research (SIPR). We will support academic institutions and people who wish to do research into policing.
The partnership aims to work together in a spirit of cooperation. It also seeks contributions to the evidence base for policing policy and practice in Scotland. It aims to develop Scotland’s national and international reputation for police training and research.
The partnership gives academic institutions and individuals a direct way to positively influence the development of policing in Scotland.
What is SIPR?
SIPR is a collaborative venture involving investment by 12 participating universities. It also receives additional funding from Police Scotland.
It has been set up with the aims of:
- gathering high quality, independent research of relevance to policing in Scotland
- using research findings by the police to contribute to the development of policing policy and practice
- improving national and international recognition for policing research carried out in Scotland.
Though Police Scotland and SIPR work in partnership, SIPR remains academically independent. This also applies to any research conducted under the SIPR banner.
