Small Ports
Small Ports officers are a dedicated team of BPC (Border Policing Command) officers who make regular visits to all the small air and sea ports throughout Scotland, including air strips, harbours and marinas. Small Ports officers carry out operations and maintain good relations with the owners, staff and users/operators at these diverse sites ranging from small non designated airports/airfields such as Perth, East Fortune and Cumbernauld to large seaports such as Peterhead, Roysth and Greenock.
Pilots, boat owners, operators, staff and the wider portal communities are asked to be vigilant regarding potential breaches of national security and matters relating to terrorism and crime. Click on a link below to find out more specific information:

Legislation and how it affects air travel
One of our responsibilities is to police all non-designated airfields in Scotland and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, in particular the Terrorism Act 2000.
Under the Terrorism Act 2000, where an aircraft is used to carry passengers for reward on a journey to/from a non-designated port within Great Britain to/from a non-designated port within the Common Travel Area (CTA); the CTA includes the Channel Islands, Isle of Man, Northern Ireland and the Republic Of Ireland; the owners/agents of the aircraft shall not arrange for it to call at a port in Great Britain or Northern Ireland for the purpose of disembarking/embarking passengers unless the arrangement has been approved by the police.
Where an aircraft is used on journeys otherwise than carrying passengers for reward to/from a non-designated port within Great Britain to a non-designated port within the CTA, the captain of the aircraft shall not permit it to call at or leave a port in Great Britain or Northern Ireland unless written notice has been provided to the police. A minimum of 12 hours’ notice must be provided.
It is an offence under the Terrorism Act to fail to comply with this requirement.
