Rothesay police station front counter closure as part of planned refurbishment
The front counter facility at Rothesay police station will be temporarily closed for essential refurbishments from Monday, 26 May, 2025 to Monday, 2 June, 2025. Members of the public will not be able to access the station during this time.
Area Commander, James McArthur said: “This short-term closure marks the beginning of a significant refurbishment project at Rothesay police station. The building, which dates back to the 1960s, requires essential upgrades.
“I appreciate that closing the front counter may cause some inconvenience. Officers will continue to be on patrol around Bute and we would encourage anyone to approach them with any issues. During the closure, the public can contact Police Scotland by calling 101 for non-emergencies and general enquiries, and 999 in the event of an emergency.”
“This work forms part of Police Scotland’s Estates Masterplan which aims to modernise buildings and ensure they support effective policing. The police station in Rothesay serves not only the town but is our base for policing the entire island. Close to the main shopping area and ferry terminal, the station is in a good location for residents and the thousands of visitors who come to the island every year. We also have good access from our current building to travel toother areas of the island.
“The building is old and the current layout isn’t ideal for modern policing. Investing in the station will improve the working conditions for the officers and staff who work there and ensure that officers can continue to use it as an effective base to serve the island for many years to come.”
